About the Event

Presenter Bio:

Sarah Swafford, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Registered Play Therapist (RPT), has worked as a therapist in the El Paso area for the past eight years. Sarah received a Master’s of Education in Counseling from Sul Ross State University and a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Texas at El Paso. Sarah currently owns her own private practice, Mindful Wellness Counseling, PLLC, and is trained in Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) and Child-Parent Relational Therapy (CPRT). She has also received training in Resolve Through Sharing: Perinatal Loss and Level 1 of the Gottman Method Couples Training.  Sarah has presented on mental health topics within the region and is currently a member of the Far West Texas Association for Play Therapy and the Association for Play Therapy.

Presentation Abstract:

Parent consultations allow therapists to engage parents in understanding play therapy and provide a space for the therapist to continue to build a therapeutic relationship. This presentation will look at the ways in which to utilize the child’s development to identify and discuss progress, regression, goals, and the ongoing therapeutic process.

Presentation Objectives:

  • Participants will identify two ways in which to utilize a child’s development in parent consultations.
  • Participants will learn how to structure a parent consultation in play therapy utilizing a developmental approach.
  • Participants will identify two ways in which to explain play therapy goals in a parent consultation.

This presentation is part four of a six part series. In lieu of our annual conference we have put together this Zoom mini-series. This presentation is not included in your membership but can be purchased here. You may purchase one presentation at a time or a package which offers a discount. Presentations in this mini-series are treated ala carte. Register for the presentations that you desire and feel would help expand your play therapy knowledge. We understand that everyone is in a different place with their training and hope this approach will allow you to take what best suits you at this time.
