Play Therapy Heads West

Presenter Bio:

Emily Stuessy, M. Ed., Ed. D. (Educ. Admin.),Professional School Counselor, LPC-S, RPT-S

Emily began her school counseling career in 1985 on an elementary campus.  She moved on to work with all levels as a PK-12 counselor.  Emily added district-level experience, followed by a stint in a nonprofit counseling organization.  Currently Emily serves as the Lead Counselor – Middle Schools in the El Paso Independent School District.

Presentation Abstract:

The purpose of this training is to trace the history of play therapy’s arrival, expansion, and continued use in the El Paso region.  From beginning play therapists to experienced practitioners, participants will enjoy the opportunity to learn, discuss, and appreciate the positive impact that the play therapy modality has made in the lives of thousands of children and families.  Attendees will recognize the importance of sustained dedication to the advancement of play therapy.

Presentation Objectives:

• Participants will be able to summarize the history of play therapy in the El Paso area
• Participants will be able to identify key events in the expansion of play therapy in the El Paso region
• Participants will be able to name areas of play therapy interest that have developed around El Paso
