Presenter Bio:
Kelly Martin, MEd, LPC-S, RPT-S is a play therapist at her private practice, The Playroom Lubbock, in Lubbock, TX. She began her play therapy career as an elementary school counselor and has furthered her training in relational approaches for developmental differences with a Profectum Level 1 certificate in DIR FLoortime. Kelly serves on the Texas Association for Play Therapy board as West Regional Director.
Presentation Abstract:
Understanding the sensory systems and how their function impact children in play therapy is a crucial competency to develop for play therapists. In this workshop participants will learn how to use sensory informed play and sensory materials to facilitate co regulation and to support a child's sensory and nervous system.
Presentation Objectives:
- Participants will identify the 8 sensory systems
- Participants will describe the effects of sensory processing on child behavior
- Participants will describe play therapy techniques and materials for children with sensory challenges
- Participants will practice sensory informed play therapist facilitative responses
